Sara Boone Baird of Richmond, Virginia has published an autobiography My Life As Fantasy Has Me Remember It. The story begins with childhood days on the fringe of the Oconee Swamp in Toomsboro, Georgia. In straight-forward prose, the author recounts being destitute in the Great Depression following her father’s death. Living with grandparents in Jackson, Georgia, she completed high school. After graduation from Mercer University in 1942, she began a career with the United States Army Air Corps. As a personnel administrator, her assignments included seven air bases from Miami Beach, Florida to the nation’s capital and the headquarters of Air Transport command. Life on the home front during WWII included rationing, saving aluminum foil wrappings, victory gardening, aircraft spotting, air raid drills with wardens knocking on doors, and knitting mittens for Britain.
After marriage to a former Air Force test pilot in 1950, Mrs. Baird moved to Richmond. She worked as a job and wage administration analyst in the Office of Governor, Commonwealth of Virginia. At Collegiate School, her last position was administrator of the Powell Endowment where she developed a model economic education curriculum.
Sara Baird, an artist, resides in Henrico County. Photos of her paintings illustrate the book.

Sara: I have received my copy of your book through the mail. It is FABULOUS. The book and its graphic design is most attractive. Anyone familiar with WWII will enjoy your version of life during those years. Thank you for getting your story published. Anne Newman
