by Tom Orrell
ISBN: 1401047084 (hardcover)
ISBN: 1401047076 (paperback)
$17.84 (best deal from publisher in paperback)
“Outstanding! There are times in a read when the story is simple, yet profound. This is what I found in the exceptional work, “Shenandoah Whispers And Echoes,” by Tom Orrell. It begins in the present when a man finds an old handwritten journal giving the account of a man’s life in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in the end of the 19th century. In this journal we share the life of this man and his family, from his childhood, through the Civil War and its aftermath. I wondered as I read the accounts of the atrocities that were done to these people during the war just how true they were. If they are true to form, it is no wonder that hatred ran deep for their Northern countrymen. We walk with him as he struggles to overcome the tragedies that life brought his way as he grows to manhood, share his joys; watch as he battles injustices, faces incredible loss of numerous loved ones, and desperately tries to make sense of the very existence he is in. This is a work that runs deep and will keep you on an emotional high. A story that will grip your heart as you share one man’s journey through this experience we call life. Recommended.”

River Summer-Stories from the Rappahannock
ISBN: 1424166950
152 pages
Author Russell Francis of Mechanicsville Virginia, brings to life a series of stories, of what it is like when you have a large close and loving family. Sprinkled with southern history, mystery, and kids’ imagination in the early 1950’s and 60’s. Born 1953 in Richmond Virginia and still a proud Virginian, Mr. Francis has always enjoyed the craft of writing, from short stories, poems and an occasional song. His Walden Pond is the Rappahannock River in the northern neck of Virginia. He is never to far from his family or the river. He has gotten to see more then just the surface of the water; an avid SCUBA diver and boater for many years—knows from his experience what our rivers, bays, and oceans can offer for the future.
Mr. Francis has created a wonderful, colorful, and relaxing narrative for those drawn to the magic of the river. A delight and inspiration for all readers and lovers of river living.

Roaring Creek is a novel based on the true story of his great great grandfathers experiences in the Confederate army. Clarke Lewis leaves his home in Greenbrier County, Va. (now Wv.) to enlist in the Confederate army in 1861.
This book is an adventure filled, fast paced novel that explores his feelings of love, personal growth, conquered fear and performance of duty on 14 battlefields. Share his feelings of despair, hopelessness, hunger and exposure to the elements in Point Lookout Prison as a prisoner of war. See the courage of the VMI cadets at New Market and endure the trenches at North Anna. Experience the horrible carnage of 7,000 Northern troops at Cold Harbor. This novel tells the story of the war through the eyes of a Virginia private, not the usual tale of high ranking officers and southern belles. It contains lost love and found love during the war years. View the Confederate soldier from a new perspective after reading this entertaining novel that’s about much more than just battles.

Her mentor through the process, Founding Father George Washington, reveals a world in which harmony, balance and unity can save us from disaster. “Let us imagine the unimaginable—a Nation that, in the fullness of time, embodies freedom, the Master’s justice, equality. A new way of governing and of being governed. Let us begin,” Washington declares.
As the “Seven Spiritual Principles for Governing a People” are unveiled, what seems impossible becomes tangible, within our grasp. The novel is a page-turner of betrayal and vengeance, courage and trust, a startling new vision of personal and public transformation for our nation and the world.

It’s truly a novel for our changing times.
Comments (0)“Tell Me That You Like It” is a fast-paced novel that puts a human face on the national epidemic of crimes against women and children. While eschewing gratuitous sex and violence, the storyline carries the reader along the trail of rescue and redemption, while celebrating the inner strength of women who refuse to remain victims. The book is available through Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com for $13.95. You can also ask for it at your local bookstore. I would be delighted to visit your book club for a discussing of my book.

Harry was raised in India, educated in England, and became Collector of the Port of Boston in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1741. The focal point of my book is his relationship with a poor young lady from my home town of Marblehead and the impact on that relationship of the earthquake of 1755 in Lisbon, Portugal, which nearly cost Harry his life. It is available on-line at Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com or by calling the publisher, iUniverse at 1-800-AUTHORS or by e-mailing me at miriamjw@juno.com. I have been writing the Akitada series, historical mysteries set in ancient Japan, for a number of years now. Unfortunately, while I get a good bit of interest across the country and oversees, there has been little attention locally. My novels have been published by major publishers (St. Martin’s Press and Penguin)and are translated into eight languages. My short stories have appeared in ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S MYSTERY MAGAZINE and won mjor awards.
The next novel in the series, BLACK ARROW, will be released by Penguin November 28 and should be in the Richmond book stores then. It is a trade paper edition and retails for $ 14.00. If not, there is always amazon.com.

As Celie confront her past and meets the child she was pressured to place for adoption in her youth, she learns about herself and the relationships that have shaped her life. During the process Celie meets a man she could love, if only she can open her heart.”

After her first few dates, she decides to concentrate on her music and her relationships with her grown daughters, her feisty mother, her soon-to-be-ex-husband and her new friends, but when someone writes “Kiss Millie” on his to-do list, her life changes dramatically.

A brief description of “Ugly Opal”:
In a quiet, shadow-filled hospital room, Opal slowly drifts into her past. With each drop of the morphine drip, she slips into those memories that had served to make her stronger, more compassionate, and better focused during life’s relentless test of endurance. Ugly Opal calls out as she crosses back into the fragile world of her youth. A journey begins that awakens her soul to complete awareness of life and what it truly means to understand and to forgive.

My first book - World, Other World - was released in July. I thought the hardest part was writing the book, but I’m now finding all the real work comes after the book is finished. Seems a new author is a drop water in a lake of authors and I’m trying to my ripple before I evaporate.
World, Other World is a collection of fourteen short stories. The binding of the book is in two-cover, flip-book format. The stories turn memories, relationships, reality, even sleep, on-end and twist them to an angle we rarely get the opportunity to view.
The stories in the World side are general fiction. The Other World stories, though speculative fiction, have characters and situations universal enough to make the non-science fiction reader comfortable.
