By Benjamin Garrison
Chester, Virginia
Genre: Historical Fiction
In May 1862, Eric Fry, a private in a North Carolina unit defending Richmond, Virginia, marches against threatening Federal forces. However, Eric is preoccupied by an unexpected letter received on the eve of battle from the woman whom he secretly loves and is desperately trying to forget–his brother’s wife. Hoping to die, he refuses to open the dispatch.
Losing his closest friend during the action, Eric is left with nothing more than his campfire associates and the letter from her. Reluctantly Eric reads the letter and begins correspondence.
As the defenses surrounding Richmond are restructured over the next few weeks, Eric reminisces over the relationship, the painful internal conflict it caused, and his ultimate decision to leave home. John Dunlap, whose wife’s death spurred him to volunteer, empathizes with Eric’s struggles and looks after Eric as a son. Along with John, Eric’s other new-found camp companions, at least, ease Eric’s pain.
In late June, the Seven Days campaign begins, giving hope to Eric that death may yet release him.

John Atkinson, formerly of Glen Allen, has a new novel, ” Timekeeper” that can be pre-ordered now from Fisher King Press. It will be out in December 2007. Go to http://www.fisherkingpress.com or call 1-800-228-9316 . USA Today and Reuters have given rave reviews !
Sharon Baldacci , author, ” A Sundog Moment” writes:
“The first sentence of Timekeeper, a novel by John Atkinson, drew me in and wouldn’t let me leave until I finished this wonderful book. The writing is first rate and made even more impressive by the fact that the young Atkinson was thought to be stupid by his teachers, unable to be taught how to read like everyone else. It is a story about abuse and a boy leaving on his own at 14 to find answers, and ultimatelyfinds redemption. I’m thankful he takes us along with him. This is a deeply moving book and you will be the better for reading it. ”

The Founders Club of Sandston has published a history of the village, with emphasis on its earliest years, 1921-1946.
The hardbound, limited edition book has 275 pages and includes excerpts of the 1920 and 1930 federal census, over 350 photographs, early maps of the area, a bibliography, and index. The publication was compiled by June Banks Evans, a former resident of Sandston now retired after 32 years of teaching.
A documented chapter of Sandston’s history is followed by personal memories and vintage photographs representative of 84 different families who lived there during its first 25 years. The common thread in these narratives is of a community growing up along with its residents, providing the children with a sense of place now appreciated as a nurturing element for confidence and assurance. The parents and guardians assumed the problems, the children enjoyed the benefits, and as Sandston grew, so did they, the narrators of these poignant memories.

Does the Church really walk as Yahushua/Jesus walked? Is the New Testament really the foundation for Christianity? Does the Church understand the N.T. in light of the Old Testament? Does Christianity have Our Savior’s Hebrew mind-set or a Greco/Roman mind-set? Does Christianity follow the same commandments that our Savior followed and do they observe the same Feasts/holidays that He kept? Does Christianity use the Scriptural Names for the Father and His Son? Does Christianity have an accurate understanding of His Deity? Does Christianity realize that the N.T. was made with the House of Judah and House of Yisrael? Does Christianity observe the Sabbath on the same day that Yahushua and the saints in the N.T. observed? Come with me on a spiritual journey that will change your life forever! As we “connect the dots,” so to speak, a fuller picture will emerge of our Hebraic roots and our Hebrew Savior, Yahushua!
